Q. What is Rotary?
A. Rotary is a non-profit service organization comprised of business and professional leaders united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
Q. You describe Rotary as worldwide?
A. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 countries.
Q. What is the objective of Rotary?
A. The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
  1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  2. High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  3. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;
  4. The advancement of International understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
Q. How do I join?
A. You must be proposed for membership by a Rotarian.
Q. Are there qualifications to be a member?
A. Yes, Rotary is based on a classification system in accordance with the member's business or professional activity. Each classification is limited to no more than 10% of the club's active membership. This insures a cross-section of the entire community will comprise the membership of the organization.
Q. What is required of me as a member?
A. You are expected to maintain an attendance of at least 60%. You are expected to be involved in the club's activities and participate in the community service aspect of the club. You are expected to keep current your annual dues.
